Welcome to Gordon United Church

If you are considering joining us for the first time, we extend our warmest greetings. Welcome! Gordon is a friendly, accepting congregation blessed with members diverse in background.
We meet for Sunday services beginning with a time of singing at 10:15 with the worship service at 10:30AM, and for fellowship and coffee immediately afterward. Come out and join us! Everyone is welcome, no matter what your background is. You don't have to dress up. Jeans are okay here. But Sunday Best is also just fine if you like to dress up. Bring the kids, we have Sunday School for them, a cry room if they're the more spirited kind of little one, and of course, you're welcome to keep them with you in the sanctuary.

Disaster Relief

The congregation of Gordon United Church is holding the people of Haiti in prayer after the devastating earthquake that hit on Tuesday, January 12th. UCC partners are already working to bring healing and order in the midst of chaos. To donate to the United Church's Emergency Response program, a cheque can be made through Gordon United Church - please mark on the information line: Emergency Response - Haitian earthquake relief. You can also donate online at the United Church website. Click on "Make a Donation", and fill out the online form. Thank-you for supporting our Haitian sisters and brothers.

3 - and possibly -- 5 shipping containers will be going to Haiti from the Compassionate Resource Warehouse here in Victoria. They're especially hoping that Vancouver Island folks will donate the heavier items, like hammers, shovels, rakes, soaps, etc. Items can be dropped off at Lumberworld at 3955 Quadra, at the Warehouse Wed and Fri 10-4 at #2 831 Devenshire Rd, or here at Gordon United Church.

Monday afternoon study group

Starting January 11th, for ten Mondays from 1:00 -3:00 we will be using the Experiencing Jesus resource, based on progressive Biblical scholar Marcus Borg's book, Jesus: Uncovering the Life, Teachings, and Relevance of a Religious Revolutionary, available through your favourite bookstore, library, online, or through Wood Lake Books or United Church Resource Distribution. ISBN 978-0-06-059445-9. Currently, the book costs from $20-35, depending on where it is purchased. Participants will need to read a chapter a week for 10 weeks, and come prepared to pray with, read and discuss Scripture and the contents of that chapter. We will learn with the head, and grow with the heart. If the cost is prohibitive, let Heidi know, and we'll help with the cost. You can sign up by phoning or emailing the church office. If you'd like us to order you a book, please let us know.

Gordon's newest member

On December 6th, Will (left) became the newest member of Gordon United. Welcome Will!

Keeping up

It finally happened. Our webmaster managed to find a few minutes of spare time and get mailing lists working. There are two: Announcements and General. The announcements list receives a weekly mailing of the announcement sheet handed out at the service. The sermon, if it is ready will also be sent to that list. The General mailing list has everyone's email address on it, and its purpose is to let church members know of upcoming event changes or other important things that can't wait for the weekend. Getting snowed out of church inspired this list. To subscribe click on the links below and fill out the form:
